Presidents Message 12/08/08

The end is near…and the prize is in sight. At the conclusion of the home and away season we find our Reserves sitting on top of the ladder as the minor premiers and our Seniors sitting fourth.

It is great to be a part of the finals again. Let’s not forget the kids who have three teams playing off this week in Grand Finals. Good luck and best wishes to all those involved.

At this time I would like to personally thank all those involved with the Epping Football Club in season 2008. To the committees, support staff, coaches, players and supporters I say a big thank you for your continued assistance and contributions.

To all our valued sponsors, I say thank you for your continued support, without which life would be difficult.

For those that don’t know, I will not be continuing in the President’s role in 2009 due to extensive work commitments. These commitments will keep me away far too much from my first love, my family. With limited time available I still hope to remain involved with Epping Football Club in some capacity.

I can honestly say without blowing my own trumpet that I do believe we have turned a corner at the club and look set to continue down a successful path both on and off field.

As a club we must remember that no person is bigger than the club and that all opinions are valued and excepted but only some are suitable and can be acted upon.

I would like to call upon all those associated with the club to make our final weeks the biggest and best the club has seen. We can do this by getting to the finals in large numbers.

The final function that the club will host is on the 26th September which is the clubs presentation night. I would like to set us a challenge to get 200 people to the function. If you would like to get a table together please see a member of the committee.

As always I will be around wearing my heart on my sleeve and hoping that the club can add to its trophy cabinets. If that is not the case then we can all hold our heads up high as we have progressed so far this year which is something we should all be proud of.

At this time I would like to send my best wishes from my family to yours for good and prosperous times ahead.

You are all a part of my life and “a part of history”

Many thanks

Brendan McCarthy

Senior Pie Night with Radio SEN 1116.

Several weeks ago Aaron Willits kicked 17 goals in a senior match. As a result of this, his team mate, PECK's, nominated him and the club for a competition to win a fully catered Pie Night. As it would be, we won the competition. Aaron was featured on SEN 1116 Radio on Thursday, 3rd July and won a $500 mobile phone and Sherrin football.

The club has received a fully catered Pie Night for 200 people on Thursday, 17th July from 6pm. The night is for Seniors, Reserves, U17s, Superules and Club supporters. The night will include a visit from the RED BULL girls, racing car arcade simulators, food and drink supplied by Four & Twenty, Mr Donut and Coca Cola.

Presentations will be made to the club in the form of a $500.00 cheque as well as a presentation to Aaron.

A major raffle will be conducted on the night which includes a wheel barrow filled with x2 slabs of VIC CANS and x2 slabs of JIM BEAM. RaffleTickets are $10 and available now, see Macca or Tags.... the winner can host their very own wheel barrow party

We welcome everyone to the club on that night but be advise that food is limited to 200 people and as such the players will be fed first.

A big thank you to PECKS for nominating the club and Aaron for this award. Well done.

Presidents Message 1/7/08

The last couple of weeks have seen both the Senior and Reserves sides send a message to the rest of the competition. We are currently placed fourth in the seniors and first in the reserves.
The structures, team play and commitment are starting to reap rewards. The Seniors notched their sixth win in a row on the weekend.

Our past player program has been well received with all past players being involved in winning games.

I would like to take this opportunity to advise that the AGM will be held in September with a date to be confirmed soon. I personally will be unable to continue in the President’s role due to extra work and home commitments. I do hope to remain involved through a general committee position. Any person interested in joining the current committee or putting your team together please make your intentions are known. An easy transition between seasons will benefit the club greatly.

In other news the Epping Football Club is experiencing a baby boom at the moment with recent additions to the Weber and Reid families. Congratulations to all of you on your new baby blues.

In junior news we look set to have record numbers of teams featured in the final series this year. The teams are travelling very well. We wish the teams and there officials all the best of luck in the coming weeks.

In Social news we have some functions coming up which include…

Ladies night Saturday 5th July
Trivia night Saturday 12th July
Junior dinner dance Friday 18th July
$10000 draw Sunday 10th August (tickets available now)
Vote count Saturday 13th September
Presentation night Friday 26th September
(tickets available now)

With six rounds left before finals I look forward to your continuing support around the club. Remember it is never too late to offer your assistance.
Good luck to all teams both junior and senior.

You are all a part of history

Brendan McCarthy

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE 4/06/08

HALF WAY MARK….

The first half of season 2008 has had everything, some good and some bad. The challenges were expected at the beginning of the year in relation to on and off field. At this time, the half way mark of the season we are very happy with both the on and off field progression of the club.

Seniors 5 wins 4 losses – 6th place
Reserves 8 wins 1 loss – 2nd place

It has been fantastic to see all the faces down on Thursday nights and Saturdays. Many are flocking back to the club with a renewed interest.

I am very please that currently every Epping player has been sponsored for season 2008. In all my time at the club I don’t recall this happening. Well done to all the players who sought those sponsors and to the sponsors themselves for there gracious contributions.

In other news many would have seen the introduction of the past player of the week at every home game. The selected player is profiled in relation to there history at the Epping football club which is presented for all players and supporters to read. The selected player also gets the opportunity to address the players prior to the senior game. So far the past players are 3 wins no losses, so the pressure is on. The past player system has bridged the gap between current and past players.

Our netballers are travelling well with a number of wins on the board. The netball is here to stay so now is the perfect opportunity for all those seeking advertising for there business to jump on board and sponsor the netballers.
If you would like to get more involved with the netball team please contact Kirsty Stilsby or the Senior committee.

Junior news… Congratulations to all the junior sides on there success so far. I have been able to see a number of games and can assure all that we have some very talented kids coming through the ranks.

This weekend Aaron Willets and Brad Hollow represent Northern Football League in the inter league game. Congrats to both of you and good luck this weekend.  Congratulations to Kim and Rob who are also involved as the lead medical staff on the day. Congratulations to Julianne Long who will be involved as the inter league time keeper. Tony Taggart was asked to be the runner on the day but he had to decline as he had another engagement hosting a radio program on JOY FM.

Socially at the club we have a number of functions coming which include …

Mid Year Dinner Dance 14th June- some tickets left – see Tags at the rooms.
Presidents Lunch 21st June with Carlton legend Geoff Southby (almost sold out) see Tags for details.

The annual $10,000 draw is on again and tickets are currently available at $120 which admits two on the day.
The special Guest speaker will be Essendon great “SIMON MADDEN

Finally I would like to extend a big thankyou to our current and new football club sponsors at all levels. Without you life would be difficult. Thank you all for your contributions so far this year.

To all players, sponsors, supporters, men, women and children, a big thank you for the year thus far. Get on board for an exciting second half of the year as we start to make our assault on the finals.

Be a part of history…..

Brendan McCarthy

7th May 2008 Presidents Message

The last week has been a difficult one for the club with an incident arising from the weekend’s junior game at Lalor.

I would like to take this opportunity to advise all those involved with the club that we are strongly supporting those involved and that there are serious matters which have arisen in recent days which are still under investigation by the appropriate organisations.

We ask that all persons refrain from calling radio stations or media outlets of any type. As mentioned the matters are still under investigation. We hope to clear the clubs name and the names of those involved.

On behalf of the Senior, Junior Committee and persons involved we thank those who have offered there support during the past week.

Thankyou
Brendan McCarthy

28th April 2008 Presidents Message

Four games down and one win in the seniors and four wins in the reserves.

The seniors have had two close losses but we all know including the players that we should have done better. We are rebuilding and learning week by week. As a club we can not expect miracles overnight and we need to work together to produce success over the years ahead.

We are asking all supporters to be patient and feel free to ask questions in relation to the new game style and the way ahead.

The reserves side is travelling well and are proof that the new game style is working when everyone accepts it and delivers. Keep up the good work.

Great to see all the faces down at training and on game day, the support is great.
If you have spare time on game day or during the week and can assist the committee please contact us and we will tell you what is needed.

Don’t forget all the social functions coming up – see the social page  for details.

Let's be part of history

Brendan McCarthy

“PANTHER STALKS” SEN 1116

Many of you may have heard our Junior President come to the defence of the club after a person not affiliated with club attacked our new pricing structure for the junior club on the radio station 1116 SEN.

The junior club has increased membership cost , but the new cost is an all inclusive price which means parents will not have to put there hands in there pockets during the year.

The person who attacked our club does not have a child associated with our club but was acting on information obtained from someone who does. It is disappointing that people would not approach the club if they had concerns.

Suffice to say Jacqui spoke extremely well and was the topic of conversation at a recent NFL meeting when Phiv Demetriou (Northern Region Community Development Officer) spoke of the interview and how it exposed that our membership costs were far below that of the round ball code. Phiv passed on his congratulations to our club for such a positive response.

Moral of the story- Don’t shout your mouth off without the facts or the panther will pounce.

Well done Jacqui you have our full support.

Epping Senior Football Club Executive Committee.
